The Nominating Committee of the Young Lawyers Division of the New Jersey State Bar Association is soliciting nominations for Bar Year 2018-2019 (5/18-5/19). The deadline for submitting nominations or letters of interest is Friday, March 30, 2018.  This is a hard deadline, and will not be extended.

NOTE: Every person who wants to serve on the Executive Committee must either be nominated or submit a letter of interest.  You will not be considered for a position simply because you currently hold the position.

To be eligible for election to the YLD Executive Committee, a candidate must have been a member of the YLD in good standing for at least three months prior to nomination. A person must be eligible for membership in the YLD for the full term to which the member is nominated.  Executive Committee representatives must attend regular monthly YLD meetings (usually the first or second Tuesday of the month) and report the business of their districts to the Committee (if applicable).  In-person attendance is preferred, but call-in access is available.  Each person holding a position is also expected to participate in one or more of the YLD’s standing committees (e.g., Wills for Heroes, Seminars, Long Range Planning, Earth Day, Law Day, Prisoner Re-Entry, Social, Nominating, Awards, etc.).  Candidates are welcome to submit for multiple positions, but may only accept one position.

Voting positions on the YLD Executive Committee are available for the following Officer positions:  YLD Secretary, YLD Treasurer, and YLD Chair-Elect.  Candidates for Officer positions should submit a current curriculum vitae as well as a detailed letter of interest indicating (a) your involvement in the YLD, (b) your involvement in other bar, business or community organizations, (c) your plan for the future of the YLD and (d) any other details you believe would be relevant to the Nominating Committee.

Voting positions on the Executive Committee are available for district representatives in the following districts: Atlantic/Cape May (2), Bergen, Burlington, Camden, Essex (2), Gloucester/Cumberland/Salem (2), Hudson, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex/Warren, Union, Corporate, Government, Minority Bar (2), At-Large (5), and Editor of the YLD "Dictum" newsletter.

To be eligible to serve in a county district capacity, you must live and/or work in that area, and should be active in the local county bar association.  In your letter of interest, please clearly indicate how you are geographically eligible for the position, and outline your involvement in the local bar.

The following non-voting positions are also available: Associate Editors of the YLD "Dictum" newsletter (3), Legislative Coordinator, Parliamentarian, and Law School Representative.

Please note that anyone can participate in the business and/or committees of the YLD Executive Committee in a non-voting role.  If you would like to become more involved in YLD for BY2018-2019, but not necessarily take on the responsibilities of one of the delineated positions (above), you may also email the Nominating Chair (contact information below) to be included on Executive Committee emails.  We welcome the participation of all members of the NJSBA YLD.

Nominations, letters of interest, and/or questions should be submitted by email to:  Dana M. Van Leuven, Esq. at [email protected]
