New Jersey Board of Public Utilities Schedules Hearings on Energy Master Plan Working Group Reports

By Phyllis J. Kessler, Esq posted 10-17-2011 05:07 PM

I am the Chair of the Subcommittee for Recent Developments of the Renewable Energy, Cleantech and Climate Change Committee (“Committee”) of NJSBA.  Following is the first post in a blog that I will be writing on an on-going basis on behalf of that Committee. The mission is to cover topics and provide information of interest to the Committee, NJSBA members and the public on developments in New Jersey or relevant developments elsewhere related to renewable energy, energy efficiency, clean technologies, and climate change, all of which
are covered by the Committee.

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (”BPU”) issued its 2011 Draft Energy Master Plan (“EMP”) on July 7, 2011.  After several hearings at which interested parties presented testimony related to issues of interest, the BPU formed four working groups, 1) Alternatively Fueled Vehicles, 2) Innovative Technologies, 3) Biomass, and 4) Clean Energy Funding.

Each of the working groups has issued a Recommendation that was reported to the Board.  Copies of the reports can be found on the BPU’s website at http://nj.gov/emp/index.shtml.  The BPU has established hearing dates for public hearings to be held to discuss the 2011 Draft EMP Working Group Recommendations, which will be attended by the BPU Commissioners.

Hearings will be held on the following dates:

    November 7, 2011     9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.     Innovative Technologies Working Group

     November 10, 2011   9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.     Biomass Working Group

Hearings will be held at Rutgers Eco Complex Auditorium (http://ecocomplex.rutgers.edu/), 1200 Florence Columbus Rd., Bordentown, NJ 08505.

Interested parties will have the opportunity to attend the hearing and, if interested, to speak at the hearings.  Written comments to each of the subcommittees’ recommendations may be sent to the BPU via email to: [email protected]  within two weeks of the date of the relevant hearing.
