NJSBA Family Law Section Seeks Candidates for 2021-2022 Section Executive Committee

To be considered for selection to the Executive Committee, candidates must be members in good standing of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Family Law Section.  Qualified candidates should have already made significant contributions to the NJSBA, NJSBA Family Law Section, NJ Family Lawyer, and/or their local Bar Associations. NJSBA member who are not currently Family Law Section members can join the section by contacting NJSBA Member Services at [email protected], or 732-249-5000.

Service on the Executive Committee requires a significant time commitment, such as:

  • Attending monthly meetings of the Executive committee in various locations in New Jersey as required under the Sections by-laws (there are no meetings in July and August);
  • Serving on subcommittees concerning the operations of the Family Law Section and substantive areas of law;
  • Reviewing committee reports, legislation and other materials;
  • Advocating for legislation concerning family law consistent with the official position adopted by the NJSBA Board of Trustees in Trenton, and by developing connections with your local Legislators;
  • Contributing to the New Jersey Family Lawyer; and
  • Attending events sponsored by the NJSBA, including the Annual Meeting, as your schedule and other obligations permit.

Additionally, the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section is committed to increasing the “diversity and participation of our membership and to cultivate camaraderie among family lawyers” as set forth in our By-Laws.

You are welcome to provide me with any additional information on your qualifications to serve as a member of the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section, including a current resume, and specifically invited to suggest topics for any article you are willing to write for the New Jersey Family Lawyer. Please also include in your letter of interest how your membership would advance our Section’s goal to promote diversity (i.e. underrepresented groups, geographic, area of family  law practice).

We are also accepting applications for the young lawyer co-chair positions. The young lawyer co-chairs will each have a position on the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section.  To be eligible for the Young Lawyers’ Committee, a lawyer must be under the age of 36 or practicing for less than 10 years.  The young lawyer co-chairs will be responsible for organizing educational and social events for the young lawyers of the Family Law Section as well as organizing the silent auction for the holiday party for the Family Law Section.  If you would like to apply to be a young lawyer co-chair, please provide me with details regarding your qualifications and your ideas for organizing education and social events for the young lawyers of the Family Law Section for the 2021-2022 term. 

The deadline for submitting applications to be considered for selection to the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section is April 2, 2021.  If you do not timely submit your information, you will not be considered for a position on the Family Law Executive Committee for the 2021-2022 term.
