Change in Procedures for New Jersey Business Records Searches & UCC Searches and Filings

By Brett R. Harris, Esq posted 08-24-2011 11:40 AM

The New Jersey Division of Revenue has launched a new online Business Records Service which enables immediate access to business entity documents (both certified and non-certified copies of charter documents and State filings for entities). The BRS replaces the Accessnet Application, the system previously used to access online records, and includes business entity status reports and tradename and trade/servicemark status reports. They have also launched a new UCC Online Services website, which provides for immediate access to UCC records and provides for online filing. The BRS and UCC Online result from a privatization of the business records access by the State to the New Jersey Information Division of NICUSA, Inc.

The websites can be accessed at www.njportal.com/brs and www.njportal.com/UCC. Technical questions are referred to the New Jersey e-Government Services Help Desk at 609-586-2600, which is administered by NICUSA. Other questions regarding the program can be referred to the New Jersey Division of Revenue 609-292-9292.

The cost for BRS documents and UCC Online Services includes the statutory fee (as previously administered by the Division of Revenue) and a portal administration fee which is specified at the website. Presently, payment options are by credit card, electronic check and a newly-established Payment Management Services account (available at this time only for UCC Online Services; expected for BRS this fall). Payment for BRS documents and UCC Online Services cannot be made through the Division of Revenue Depository Accounts, although the depository accounts can still be used for filings fees paid directly to the Division of Revenue (including online entity filings, annual report filings, reinstatements, etc. other than UCC filings) and copy requests submitted to the Division other than online.
