Custody, Timesharing and the Child's Best Interest

Tectonic shifts in American culture have vastly altered how families live….. and divorce.

The social sciences have tried to keep pace. Removal, parent coordinators, parental alienation and reunification are concepts and terms that were rarely discussed 50 years ago, yet today they are a large part of divorce landscape and litigation. To advocate effectively for your clients, you must be familiar not only with recent legal developments relating to these issues, but also with the current social science consensus and controversies about them. How do these concepts factor into the “best interests of the child” and how do mental health professionals and courts assess them?

Our informative seminar, presented by some of the state’s leading family law professionals, examines current trends and issues relating to custody and timesharing including:
• Age related timesharing with focus on very young children.

• What timesharing is in an infant’s or young child’s best interest?

• What is the impact of relocation and impact of reduced contact with non-custodial parent on the child?

• What is the true level of negative impact (if any) on children when removed a long distance from a non-custodial parent?

• Reunification methods - does reunification therapy work

• Parental alienation - does it exist?. Is it a legal or a mental health concept? Is it a diagnosable illness? If so, by whom?

• How the law in other states has caught up with the social science research.

...and much more!
