The event details are as follows:

Saturday, August 15, 2015, the Young Lawyers Division is presenting its twenty-eighth Wills for Heroes event. The event is in 6805 Long Beach Boulevard, Brant Beach, NJ 08008.

As you may know, the Wills for Heroes Foundation is a national foundation that offers estate planning documents free of charge to first responders. The Foundation has successfully teamed with the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division and various other state bar associations to create local Wills for Heroes programs, including the New Jersey State Bar Association.

The NJSBA Young Lawyers Division in connection with the Wills for Heroes Foundation will be hosting the twenty-eighth New Jersey event on Saturday, August 15, 2015. We are in need of volunteer attorneys to assist with trust and estate documents on that day.   We ask that all volunteer attorneys arrive at 8:00 am for a live and informative CLE that will touch on a wide array of estate planning, probate, and probate administration topics for beginners.  However, Wills for Heroes is also working on a webinar that may substitute for a live CLE in the future, so the program’s start and end times do not conflict with any personal time.  No experience necessary!  We will also ask that you assist with set up for the event and for a brief overview of the Wills for Heroes program. IF YOU VOLUNTEER FOR THE DAY, WE HAVE ARRANGED FOR YOU TO RECEIVE 1 CLE CREDIT FOR PARTICIPATING. Individual appointments with first responders will begin at 10:00am with the final appointments at 3:00pm.  You should be completed with your final appointment around 4 PM.

Again, it is not necessary that you be a practicing trust and estate attorney in order to volunteer. We will have experts on-site to facilitate the CLE and the process throughout the day.

Generally, appointments with first responders take about an hour. The Wills are generated with the assistance of a software product developed by New Jersey attorneys in connection with LexisNexis. Additional information can be found at the foundation’s website www.willsforheroes.org.

For this program, we usually assign at least two attorneys to each appointment. While the program works well with individual consultations, having participated in the program previously, I believe that it works better when two attorneys work on each first responder. This will also result in a greater number of our members gaining experience and being trained for future events. If you do not have malpractice insurance that will cover you, please contact me in advance to discuss, or you may simply appear on the day of the event, as we need volunteers that can serve as witnesses or notaries.  Please come out and volunteer!
