The NJSBA Young Lawyers Division in connection with the Wills for Heroes Foundation will be hosting this event.  We ask that all volunteer attorneys arrive at 8:30 am to assist with set up and for a brief overview of the Wills for Heroes program. IF YOU VOLUNTEER FOR THE DAY, WE HAVE ARRANGED FOR YOU TO RECEIVE 1 CLE CREDIT FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE TRAINING. Individual appointments with first responders will begin at 10:00am with the final appointments at 3:00pm.  You should be completed with your final appointment around 4 PM.

It is not necessary that you be a practicing trust and estate attorney in order to volunteer. We have two experts that will be on site to facilitate the CLE and the process throughout the day.

Generally, appointments with first responders take about an hour. The Wills are generated with the assistance of a software product developed by New Jersey attorneys in connection with LexisNexis. Additional information can be found at the foundation’s website www.willsforheroes.org

For this program, we usually assign at least two attorneys to each appointment. While the program works well with individual consultations, having participated in the program previously, I believe that it works better when two attorneys work on each first responder. This will also result in a greater number of our members gaining experience and being trained for future events. If you do not have malpractice insurance that will cover you, we need volunteers that can serve as witnesses or notaries, so please come out and volunteer. Let us know if you do not have malpractice insurance so that we can make sure we have enough licensed and insured attorneys on site.

At the event, you shall not solicit any fee generating business. If you are interested in being placed on a Wills for Heroes list for future events, please email me. We have several events that we are attempting to line up in the future.

About the Wills for Heroes Foundation

The Wills for Heroes Foundation works nationwide with affiliate organizations to provide free wills and other estate planning documents to America’s first responders, including police officers, firefighters and paramedics. Since November 2001, the Wills for Heroes program has provided more than 7,000 estate planning documents nationwide. Attorneys Anthony Hayes and Jeffrey Jacobson oversee the Wills for Heroes Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit.

Dress for the day is casual. The first responders are extremely grateful for the services being provided, and we seek to foster a casual, collegial environment with the first responders, several of whom may be on duty during the course of the day.  Please contact me with any questions you may have.
