The association shared with its members an update about an email scam asking people or businesses to transfer funds.

Earlier this week, the FBI issued a Public Service Announcement about the scams targeting businesses in New Jersey, that could include law firms. New Jersey has seen heavy activity and all lawyers and law firms are advised to remain vigilant.

The scam "continues to grow and evolve, targeting small, medium, and large business and personal transactions," the FBI warned.

NJSBA officials offered a few tips:

It’s important to remain guarded when working with email.

If you receive a document or a request to click on a link from someone that is completely unexpected and out of the norm and/or the tone of an email isn’t what you would expect from the sender, be on alert.

In those situations get a verbal (not email) confirmation from them before you do anything with it.

If it’s not legitimate, forward it over to a member of your IT team to review it.
