The New Jersey State Bar Foundation believes that “informed citizens are better citizens.” To keep citizens informed, the foundation has launched three blogs—“The Informed Citizen,” “The Legal Eagle Lowdown” and “The Respect Rundown.” New posts are being added regularly at njsbf.org.

Here’s what you’ll find:

Informing Citizens
The Informed Citizen is a civics blog. It will tackle civics-related topics with the goal of sharing information about how the Founding Fathers created the nation and what every citizen’s rights are under the U.S. Constitution. The first post explained the 17th Amendment and the “consent of the governed.” Future posts will explore the origin of political parties, the history of voting rights and the purpose of the presidential cabinet.

It can be found at njsbf.org/blog/the-informed-citizen/.

Getting the Lowdown
The Legal Eagle Lowdown shares information from the foundation’s legal newspaper for kids, The Legal Eagle, which is published free three times a year. The first post provided an update to a story about automatic voter registration that appeared in the fall 2016 Special Election Edition of the publication. Future posts will update stories on gene editing, net neutrality, e-cigarettes and the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.

The blog is at njsbf.org/blog/legal-eagle-lowdown/.

Getting the Rundown
The Respect Rundown is a blog to complement the foundation’s tolerance and diversity newsletter, Respect, which is published free three times a year.

Posts for the Rundown offer updates on articles originally published in Respect. The first post updated the racial gerrymandering article from the fall 2016 Special Voting Rights Edition. Future posts will update stories on voter ID laws, transgender issues and immigration.

The blog is njsbf.org/blog/the-respect-rundown/.
