MIPS Black History Month Reception and Trivia Contest

The Minorities in the Profession Section invites you to attend its annual Black History Month Program on Tues., February 23 at 6 p.m. at the New Jersey Law Center.

This a FREE event that will feature:

  • Trivia contest featuring top 5 essay finalists
  • Art Exhibit by local artist
  • Music by the Trenton High School Orchestra
  • Award presentations

New Jersey high school students who wish to participate in the trivia contest must submit a qualifying essay on the following topic:

Black Lives Matter
Following the unfortunate death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, the term “Black Lives Matter” began trending on Twitter. Since then, there have been numerous incidents that have caused people to join the Black Lives Matter movement. You are now running for President of your school’s Student Government. At the candidate’s forum, a group of students asked whether or not you support this movement. Explain why or why not.

Contest Deadlines:

  • Qualifying essays must be submitted by midnight Wed., January 20, 2016
  • Essay finalists and runners-up will be announced by 12 noon on Mon., February 15, 2016.
  • Essay finalists must confirm their attendance and participation in the trivia contest by Fri., February 19, 2016.

Trivia Contest:
Students who submit an essay will qualify for the opportunity to compete in a Black History Trivia Contest on  Tues., February 23 at the New Jersey Law Center for the following cash prizes:

First Place       $250 Gift Card
Second Place   $150 Gift Card
Third Place      $100 Gift Card
Runners-up       $25 Gift Card
