Understanding OPRA and OPMA

When:  Dec 4, 2015 from 09:00 AM to 01:00 PM (ET)
Associated with  Local Government Law Section
OPMA (Open Public Meetings Act) and OPRA (Open Public Records Act) are two powerful tools for freedom of information and open government in New Jersey. Both place significant compliance obligations on municipalities in terms of accessibility, record keeping and responding to a request from the public. Litigation involving both is common and the increased use of social media both by towns and municipal officials continues to add new and interesting twists to what’s considered a “meeting” or a “record”.

At this informative four-hour seminar, New Jersey’s leading local government law attorneys wil review the fundamentals of OPMA and OPRA, analyze the important exceptions to both, and discuss the challenges that can trigger litigation. They will also review recent relevant case law and provide advice about counseling local governments on compliance with OPMA and OPRA.
