A Conference for Young Family Lawyers

IAFL and the AAML New York Chapter jointly present this one and one half day conference.  The focus will be an introduction to international family law concepts and practice. The speakers will be family law professionals and leading lawyers who are fellows of the International Academy of Family Lawyers (www.iafl.com) from throughout the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Europe and South America.
Sooner or later if you practice family law you will be dealing with international issues.  The conference is primarily for individuals who have an international practice already and who are interested in finding out more about applying to the IAFL or younger (up to 10 years qualified) lawyers who work with IAFL fellows, or others who consider themselves likely to develop an international practice.  Although this conference is not aimed at IAFL fellows, they are welcome to attend.
The first day will focus on
  • Differences between Common Law, Civil Law and Matrimonial Regimes
  • International prenuptial agreements
  • Enforcement/registration of foreign orders
  • International surrogacy/ARTS
Saturday morning's program will be a panel presentation of all things related to child abduction. Topics will include international cross border children issues, habitual residence, effective prosecution and defense of Hague child abduction proceedings, mediation, federal versus state jurisdiction, UCCJEA and Hague proceedings, drafting international travel documents and assessing the risk of travel.

Application will be made for New York CLE credits for this program.
