The Potential Trump Effect On The Sports World

With any new POTUS comes change throughout the world.  One such Trump effect could come at the hands of the sports community.  For example, Trump’s position on immigration and the revamping of trade policy could directly affect the International Olympic Committee’s decision regarding the United States’ bid to host the 2024 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.  This decision will be made in September 2017.

Likewise, the awarding of the 2026 World Cup for soccer is approaching.  A suggestion for the event is that USA could host with either Mexico or Canada.  President-elect Trump has suggested building a wall along the US-Mexico border that if undertaken would certainly harm USA-Mexico relations.  Any such policy consideration could jeopardize the USA’s ability to co-host with Mexico.

Perhaps more important to the American sports economy are the potential imposition of proposed tariffs President-elect Trump has suggested enforcing.  These proposed tariffs may dissuade other countries from allowing American franchises to play international games, or even more damaging, from league expansion to international communities.
