About The Program:

Bankruptcy remains one of the most viable areas of law for new attorneys and general practitioners looking for expansion opportunities.

This basic program has been designed for attorneys who do not normally handle bankruptcy cases - whether you are in a large firm, a government agency, are on your own or are new to the practice. As an attendee, you’ll gain a working knowledge of the most important areas of bankruptcy law. A panel of experienced bankruptcy practitioners will explain the key provisions of the Bankruptcy Code, and discuss the differences between Chapters 7, 11 and 13 cases.

They will also share the strategy they use most often in their practices, giving you the foundation you need to start handing bankruptcy matters right away.

AFTERNOON SESSION:
Review of non-dischargeable debts and discussion concerning different procedures for handling same in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 filing and defending adversary proceedings in Chapter 7; filing and handling objections to Plan and Confirmation in Chapter 13. This panel will also discuss the complex areas of non-dischargeable student loans and various strategies for non-bankruptcy resolution.

Taxes in Bankruptcy: What types of taxes are dischargeable in bankruptcy? What additional steps beyond the mere filing of a bankruptcy petition are required to obtain a discharge of Federal and State Income Taxes? Do non-dischargeable taxes included in a Chapter 13 have to be paid interest? How are tax sale certificates handled in Chapter 13?

Addressing Client Post-Bankruptcy Issues including mortgage payments, dealing with credit reporting agencies, and much, much more.

CLE Credits:
NJ CLE information: This program has been approved by the Board on Continuing Legal Education of the Supreme Court of New Jersey for 6.7 hours of total CLE credit.
